About Lainey
My name is Lainey Battiston and I'm a graduate student at Pratt Institute, in the Library and Information Science program. Prior to attending Pratt, I spent six years working in finance, after earning a Bachelor's in History at Colby College. Though my brief career in finance was technically rewarding, I found it mentally and emotionally unfulfilling, and decided to pursue an MSLIS as a way to return to the artifacts that initially sparked my love of History (old books!)

Throughout my time at Pratt, I've enjoyed learning about the topics that originally interested me (Special Collections, rare books), but have also been inspired in more profound ways than expected, particularly in regards to the broader philosophy of librarianship and S. R. Ranganathan's five laws of library science. I'm excited to bring concepts I've learned over the past couple of years (such as ethics of care, and community-building and outreach) to my next venture: a bookstore that I'm opening in a small town in New Jersey.
